Elevating Iowa's Hockey Scene

After two exciting hockey seasons in Des Moines, the Iowa Wild is well on its way to becoming a powerhouse among the metro’s sports team brands. In 2014/2015 the Wild — an American Hockey League affiliate of NHL’s Minnesota Wild — sought to increase awareness among Iowans of the high level of experience and passion the team brings to the arena. Creating an ultra-professional presence, especially with marketing materials, and video in particular, was an important step to help elevate Iowa’s hockey scene.

Building Passion Among Iowans

Hockey fans are notoriously passionate for their sport, and the Iowa Wild’s marketing team knows that the more people they introduce to the game, the more lifelong fans they’ll create. Partnering with Trilix, the team built a plan focused on drawing Iowans to games so they can experience all the sport has to offer. The tagline "Hockey Lives Here" marked the first step in creating a foundation that the team can build upon in the years to come. Crafting a season ticket membership campaign, WILD 365 Hockey Club and team videos, which both promote the tagline, were also vital steps in the process.

To Wild fans, it’s hockey season all 365 days of the year. Trilix helped create the WILD 365 Hockey Club for the 2015-2016 season — a membership campaign seeking to increase the season ticket holder base. By sending direct mail packages and touchpoints from the coach and team throughout the year, the campaign highlights the benefits of being a WILD 365 member.

Iowa Wild Videos

A little visual goes a long way, which is why Trilix offered the Wild a new approach to video, creating nearly 40 cool and clever pieces that feature players, sponsors and community events to help build the "Hockey Lives Here" brand. Trilix produced "Hockey in Heels" and "Pink in the Rink" videos, among others, to support local nonprofits; a floor hockey video documenting players teaching P.E. classes at schools around the metro; and videos highlighting player personalities and backgrounds.
