Trilix Picks Our Favorite DSM Area Patios!

Every summer some of our most opinionated patio and beverage enthusiasts come together and create a list of patios worthy enough to celebrate a job well done. Each Thursday the Trilix crew visits these patios in the form of Trilix Patio Tour! We asked some Trilix employees where their favorite patio is in the Des Moines area. Their answers are as varied as their beverage preferences. Be warned: you might just find your new favorite patio spot!

Abe — My favorite patio is my house! The food is exceptional, the staff is amazingly beautiful and the music is the jazz I want to hear. The best part? I can listen to the jazz as loud as I want to hear it (unless the neighbors complain)!

Haley — I love going to The Rooftop in East Village. There’s a nice selection of beer and cocktails and their flatbreads are pretty tasty! It doesn’t hurt that it’s close to my apartment, either!

Courtney — Eatery A — This building used to be an old Blockbuster video store (remember those?), so every time I visit, I try to figure out which section I’m sitting in. However, I prefer to sit on the patio, which gives you a spectacular view of Ingersoll Avenue. Go during their daily happy hour when pizza, beer and wine are half price. Or order the cioppino, my personal favorite, and get the salted caramel budino for dessert.

Alyssa — I’m a big fan of Mickey’s. The prices are reasonable, the patio is spacious and there is usually a DJ or music playing!

Megan —  Hessen Haus! They have a large selection of tasty beers, and the food is amazing as well. Can’t go wrong with a brat and a brew on a nice summer evening!

Dallas — My favorite patio is Firetrucker Brewery in Ankeny because the atmosphere is great. You can play their very unique bags/cornhole game, listen to live music and order in food from anywhere, and sometimes they have food trucks. It is also right on the bike trail, so it’s a good place to stop and have a drink and hang out.

Tucker — Panda Express on Valley West Mall Drive has a great patio! Where else can you chow down on some Panda chinese and catch some rays?

Lindsey — Any patio that is dog friendly is a great one in my book. With two pups that like being outdoors, dog-friendly is a must!

Janelle — We love going to the Bravo patio! Their food is awesome, and it is nice to sit by the water and people watch!

Meghan — Tonic downtown has a fantastic patio and great drinks!

Kristin — I would have to say, if I am eating, El Bait Shop — they have a lot of food options and a massive beer selection, and the food is super cheap compared to most restaurants. If I am just going out for a drink with my friends, then I am a big fan of Mickey’s — close to everything and a fun atmosphere!

Abby — If I’m looking to patio it up without kids, I love The Rooftop in East Village. If I’m with my kids, my backyard patio is great!

Travis — Twin Peaks has the coldest beer in all of the Des Moines metro. How could I pass it up?

Paul — My favorite patio is the one attached to my home. I will take it any day of the week. It’s covered, the view of the woods is great, the beer is super cheap and I know the bathroom is only 10 feet away and very clean.

Danielle — I like going to El Bait Shop! There are a ton of beverage options, and it’s right down the street from the office!

Michael — Taco Hangover has the best patio in the Des Moines area hands down. It’s right of the bike path, which makes it the perfect place to ride to for refreshments.

Austin — It doesn’t get much better than my back patio with my dog, a cigar and a glass of whiskey.

Jason — Anywhere a “tap takeover” is taking place is perfect for me!

Alex — I like Buzzard Billy’s patio because it’s so close to Trilix that I can continue to work while drinking water and enjoying the weather!
