Get your feet wet (or maybe icy) with virtual reality at Wells Fargo Arena this hockey season. Trilix and the Iowa Wild created an interactive virtual tour that is one of the first of its kind in all of minor league sports. Lasting 45 to 60 minutes, fans wear a set of virtual reality goggles and custom-branded Iowa Wild headphones, experiencing a behind-the-scenes look at an Iowa Wild hockey game. The tour includes stops in the locker room, on-ice 360-degree views of player introductions, puck drops at center ice with the captains of each team and in-seat experiences like sitting on the glass for celebratory goals. The purpose of the tour is to educate fans on the benefits of becoming an Iowa Wild season ticket holder.
Trilix had a unique opportunity to partner with the Iowa Wild for this project by creating all of the virtual reality that fans will experience. The Trilix team shot, edited and created all 360-degree videos and graphics for the program.
“To us, there’s no greater reward than allowing fans to experience what it’s really like to be at an Iowa Wild game,” said Alex Rich, team lead for Trilix. “When you put on the goggles for the first time and see what it’s like out on center ice when the players skate out, or sit behind the player bench during a line change or even witness a goal scored literally 10 feet in front of you, you become fully immersed in the experience — it’s a feeling that’s indescribable. That’s what we wanted fans to get to see, hear and feel. Iowa Wild games are more than great hockey. They’re a 360-degree experience from start to finish.”
Tickets for this wild experience are only $10, with the money going towards a new season ticket membership if they decide to purchase a membership to Wild365 — the Iowa Wild’s exclusive club for season ticket holders. Tour times and availability are limited. Those interested are encouraged to contact the Iowa Wild front office by calling 515-564-8700 or by visiting www.iowawild.com/VR.
