Yes was the answer when Trilix employees were presented the opportunity to donate cash and in-kind donations for the Youth Emergency Shelter & Services’ (YESS) 32-bed expansion. The office donation drive started February 9 and will run through the end of the month. Employees are encouraged to donate anything from bedding and alarm clocks to shower curtains and cash to help furnish the new units.
YESS is a private, nonprofit organization created to provide at-risk children and families a safe and structured environment. It is the largest youth shelter in Iowa and includes the only crisis nursery in the state. The agency provides emergency shelter, crisis care and counseling services for more than 1,000 children each year, ranging from newborns to teens 17 years of age. In addition to providing shelter and crisis counseling, the agency also offers nutritious meals, medical care and access to education.
Unfortunately, the number of youth needing admission to the agency has increased, serving as a reminder of the growing number of issues facing youth today. To accommodate this increase, YESS is expanding their current facility, which will consist of four units with eight single bedrooms, two bathrooms and a living area.
We look forward to helping these children and their families with our donations. To learn more about the organization, visit www.yessiowa.org.
