Summer is inevitably the busy season for many of our clients, which means it’s a busy season for Trilix staff too! To help with increased workflow, we hired Intern Ellie Hayes to work with our PR/Communications team for the summer. From social media management to generating content for clients’ blogs, newsletters, emails and more, Ellie will handle a variety of communications tasks and projects throughout the next few months.
Ellie, originally from Indianola, Iowa, is a current student at Iowa State University, who will start her senior year this August. From her go-to karaoke song to her irrational fear, get to know more about our newest communications whiz.
Tell us about your Iowa State career so far and where you hope it takes you.
I recently finished my junior year at Iowa State studying abroad in Barcelona. I will be a senior this coming fall, majoring in public relations and event management. I am involved on campus with my sorority, Rho Lambda Honor Society, PRSSA, Marketing Club and more. After school, I hope to move to a larger city and work for a PR firm. I would love to own my own company one day.
What first made you interested in marketing?
Marketing is a fast-paced industry that provides continuous opportunity for growth. There is no guarantee of what will happen next, and change is inevitable. I like the idea of having a different day every day, not knowing what’s going to be thrown my way. Also, there are endless opportunities to network because this field requires communication and interpersonal skills. Being able to collaborate and converse with others allows for new, different and innovative ideas.
If you didn’t choose the career path of marketing, what would your second career choice be?
Definitely a wedding planner. I love planning/organizing things, and I love weddings; I think it would be such a fun job!
What do you like to do in your spare time when not at work?
I like to spend time with my dogs and family, and I really enjoy being outside, hiking, biking, running, etc.
Give us a fun or weird fact about you not many people know.
I am terrified of birds. Everyone laughs when I say this, but I will seriously duck and cover if I see one come my way!
What’s your go-to karaoke song?
“Don’t Stop Believin’”, definitely.
Breakfast, lunch or dinner?
Name 3 things you would bring with you if you were stranded on a desert island. My dog, a radio and a boat to leave the island.
After five years of asking new hires questions like these, Ellie has been the only one to say she’d like a boat to leave the island. A natural problem solver — we love it! Make sure to say hello to Ellie the next time you’re in our office or are lucky enough to work with her on a project.
