Drake Grad Brings Bundle of Experience to Media Team

Arriving straight from Drake University, the latest addition to the Trilix media team, Media Coordinator Haley Austin, brings a great attitude and a broad wealth of experience. The Batavia, Illinois, native has a major in advertising, with concentrations in society and culture, as well as leadership. While enrolled at Drake, Haley held three internships — a public relations internship at Drake’s Office of University Communications and social media internships at Workiva in Ames and Atlantic Bottling Company in Waukee.

When she’s not working on media island, Haley likes to check out new breweries around Des Moines (her favorite is Exile) and going on big adventures and long drives to new places with her friends.

Want to know more? Here’s what Haley had to say about everything from her celebrity look-alikes to the one food she can’t live without.

If you didn’t work in marketing/advertising, what other career path would you choose?
If I didn’t work in marketing and advertising, I would try to become a pilot. I’m scared to death of flying, but I think if I were the one commanding the aircraft, I would really enjoy the travel industry.

Do you ever get told you look like a celebrity? If so, who?
I’ve been told I’m a blend of two celebrities: the smarter, blonder, less-trendy version of Cher Horowitz from Clueless and the advertising version of Reese Witherspoon in Legally Blonde.

If you could eat only one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Pizza. I love pizza, and I don’t discriminate between deep dish, thin crust, delivery or frozen.

Give us one fact about you not many people know.
I’m obsessed with silk fabrics. So much so that every blanket on my bed has some sort of silk component to it.
