While the bier and brezel are best left for the real Oktoberfest, Trilix employees had a fantastische Zeit (great time) at the Central Iowa Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America’s (PRSA) OctoPRfest Institute Tuesday, October 20. The OctoPRfest Institute is a daylong celebration of all things PR, bringing in professionals from around the city to partake in the educational and networking opportunities surrounding the event.
To start off the event, guests were greeted by the melodic folk music of Trilix Senior Account Manager Abe Goldstien and his trusty accordion, followed by a handful of guest speakers. The first presentation of the day was titled “When Your Crisis Goes Viral” and was lead by media trainers and executive coaches Alison Gregory Pope and Scott Pope of Pope Communications. Alison and Scott talked about what to expect if your crisis goes viral and how to help prepare for and handle crisis situations. The second guest speaker, Gail Calhoun of Calhoun Consulting, Inc., immediately captured the audience’s attention with her enthusiastic presentation on “Communicating with Impact and Maximizing Influence.” And the morning was topped off with a presentation on Principal Financial Group’s Silver Anvil Case Study, Movin’ It With Campus Blueprint.
After lunch and the PRIME awards ceremony, a panel of media experts took questions from the audience on “Making the Most Out of Media Relationships.” The panel consisted of Rod Peterson, news director for WHO; Rob Dillard, correspondent for Iowa Public Radio; Dave Busiek, news director for KCCI; and Amalie Nash, executive editor and VP for news and engagement at The Des Moines Register. The festivities were capped off by a motivational speech from the director of education at the Iowa Hall of Pride, Mark Wills, which ended on a high note with a brief dance off.
Trilix Public Relations and Communications Director Jana Rieker, Communications Manager Abby Bottenfield, Communications Specialist Megan Townsend, Communications Manager Lindsey Seitz, Copywriter Tucker Vasey and Communications Analyst Haley Austin joined in for the festivities this year. Abby also served on this year’s planning committee for the Institute. Thanks to PRSA for hosting this great event!
